Board and trains in Ithaca, NY
TRAINING FOR THE LIFE YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH YOUR DOG.
Life with your dog should be about more than managing behaviors, avoiding distractions, or constantly worrying about what might happen next.
Maybe you want to go hiking without being dragged down the trail, enjoy a patio lunch without your dog barking at everyone who walks by, or simply feel confident taking your dog out into the world.
At High Peaks Canine, our Board & Train programs focus on developing clear communication, confidence, and practical skills that carry over into everyday life.
Your dog stays with us in a home environment, becoming part of our daily routine through structured training, outdoor adventures, real-world experiences, play, and plenty of opportunities to just be a dog.
We intentionally accept no more than two Board & Train dogs at a time, allowing us to give each dog the individualized attention they deserve.
Because we're not training dogs to be perfect. We're helping them become companions you can confidently enjoy life with.
What we work on:
Every Board & Train program is customized to your dog's age, temperament, behavior, and training goals. Depending on your dog, training may include:
Obedience & Everyday Manners: Loose leash walking, heel, sit, down, place, recall, impulse control, and learning how to settle.
Behavior Modification: Helping dogs work through reactivity, aggression-related behaviors, resource guarding, overarousal, and other behavioral challenges.
Real-World Training: Practicing skills in parks, on trails, downtown, and in other public environments where distractions are part of everyday life.
Confidence & Fulfillment: Building confidence through appropriate exposure, structured routines, play, exploration, and activities that meet your dog's natural needs.
Off-Leash Foundations: Developing reliable recall, engagement, and e-collar conditioning when appropriate for the individual dog.
Not Your Typical Kennel Experience.
Not Your Typical Kennel Experience.
When your dog stays with us, they become part of our everyday life.
Throughout their stay, we balance multiple training opportunities with structured walks, public outings, play, environmental exposure, and supervised rest.
Some days that means practicing leash skills downtown. Other days it's building recall on a trail or learning how to relax while life happens around them.
We believe dogs deserve to be dogs, and that sniffing, exploring, playing, and enjoying the outdoors are just as important as teaching obedience.
You'll also receive progress updates throughout their stay so you can follow along with what we're working on.

Training Doesn't Stop With Your Dog.
You're a Pretty Important Part of This Process, Too.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Board & Train is that you drop your dog off, pick them up a few weeks later, and everything is magically fixed.
We wish it were that simple!
Owner education is a big part of our programs. For local clients, or those able to accommodate the schedule, we offer weekly private lessons while your dog stays with us.
You'll have the opportunity to see their progress, learn the techniques we're using, and practice handling skills before bringing your dog home.
Our goal is for you to feel empowered to continue your dog's training long after their stay ends.
